"PRESERVE & PROTECT OUR MARINE PARKS, MARINE ENVIRONMENT AND DIVE SITES."

What is Ocean Heritage Foundation?

Ocean Heritage Foundation (OHF) was formed to answer the dire need to conserve the marine environment. Composed of an array of divers from various professional backgrounds, it has initiated its own projects as well as given support to other groups like Kabang Kalikasan ng Pilipinas (WWF), Bantay-Dagat and Probe Team to name a few. Above is our logo rationale which captures our vision as an active contributor to marine conservation.

All in all, Ocean Heritage is keeping itself open to possible tie-ups and cooperation projects with other well-established environmental groups with the belief that unity of efforts delivers more strategic and long-lasting benefits to the marine environment. Ultimately, we recognize that the vast ocean with all its creatures does not recognize any cultural, political or national boundaries - Ocean Heritage serves as one of many credible means by which the different sectors of society can channel their individual and group efforts to contribute to marine conservation.

Exhibits & Shows

Photo Exhibits and Video Shows - several have been conducted, the most noteworthy are the following:

Ayala Center photo exhibit as part of the Summer Splash promo of the whole commercial area.

Music for our Mother Ocean Movement (MOM) - a US-based environmental group recorded popular singers and artists and all proceeds were funneled to this group as a support in its efforts to conserve the marine world. This movement tied up with various sectors of society (business, professional, academic) and went on a world tour to drum up awareness for the need to preserve the ocean. In Manila, a big bash was held at Hard Rock Café where the walls were filled with underwater photos and video clips were shown.

WWF - in several launches, OH provided underwater prints in support of its various environment consciousness projects which toured the country especially the different schools and universities.

Evening shows - in various venues like Cyber Café, Friends Restaurant, Le Souffle, Kalye Pub (now Blarney's Stone) and private homes, quarterly photo exhibits and video shows were conducted in the spirit of sharing and contributing to the growing awareness for marine conservation.

Ocean Heritage is a foundation formed to address this dire need to protect and conserve the marine environment not only for the turtle but for all other life forms that inhabit the ocean. The whole logo design embodies the moving force behind Ocean Heritage - an active pursuit of activities that are dedicated to the preservation of endangered marine creatures.

Turtles are impressive survivors for they are very similar to the ichthyosaurs and pleiosaurs that inhabited the seas 150 million years ago! They are extremely well adapted to the ocean but unfortunately now a threatened species. The raised head signifies a cry for help - a gesture to all humanity to take note of its sad plight of being endangered to extinction.

The blue waves that serve as a background for the turtle distinguishes the ocean as its home without which it cannot survive. The turtle represents one of nature's most precious gifts to mankind - it is an invaluable heritage that has been handed down across the millennium but at present, humans have become their biggest peril.

Turtle meat and eggs are used for food, turtle oil are used for cosmetics and medicines and turtle shells for jewelry. Moreover many are accidentally killed each year by drowning in trawl nets or become entangled. They also fall victim to bits of plastic debris, which if mistaken for food can fatally block the breathing and digestive passages.

This situation is magnified by the curving parallel and perpendicular lines on the turtles back - it represents a global concern that defies all borders. With all its four legs spread out as if moving through water, this connotes call to the entire world - to all points of the compass to heed the urgency of the situation. Besides turtles are one of man's friends and has stayed in many a home as an aquarium or garden pet. This plea for help is directed to the very heart of mankind.

The turtle's cry can no longer be denied - Ocean Heritage is a foundation formed to address this dire need to protect and conserve the marine environment not only for the turtle but for all other life forms that inhabit the ocean. The whole logo design embodies the moving force behind Ocean Heritage - an active pursuit of activities that are dedicated to the preservation of endangered marine creatures.
