First Tec Deep Divers Certified in the Philippines
On
Monday 16 July 2001, Guenter Taus, PADI OWSI, became the first diver in
the Philippines to receive a Tec Deep Diver certification. Guenter, owner
of Westar Inc. in Manila, was first certified in 1982 in Saudi Arabia and
gradually worked his way up into the professional level in 1998. After a
rather long period of diving, Guenter got "burnt out" doing the
same dives on the same sites every weekend. He became interested in Tec
diving after reading the DSAT Tec Deep manual and felt the TecRec program
would be the way to go to spice up diving again. Attracted by "the
talk of the Industry", Guenter attended one of OceanColors IntroTec
Seminars, where he was introduced to the new Tec Deep Manual and other
course materials.
According to Guenter, "The course itself was more than one could expect. It was comprehensive, well laid out, well built and well presented by PADI TecRec Instructor Bo Lundqvist. In short, a learning experience 'Extra Ordinare'!" Says Guenter: "The depth and complexity of dives is gradually built upon as you move through the course which makes the learning curve less steep and gives students time to understand each step before moving on. Even for divers who had no intention of going Tec, this was an absolute must!" "The highlight-dive of the course was definitely dive 12. Enjoying 20 minutes at 50 meters with the sharks at Bahura Kanto in Anilao, Batangas, is a fantastic experience!" said Guenter.
"The DSAT Tec Deep Diver course is a fully integrated and well thought-out course that covers most aspects of Tec diving in great detail," said Milton. He also mentioned "it leaves one with a great sense of confidence in one's skills learned in the course. The classroom sessions were comprehensive and our Instructor was well versed in all aspects of Tec Diving." Milton believes the DSAT Tec Deep Diver course had the right amount of classroom sessions and training dives to make students safe, experienced and knowledgeable Tec divers. Milton plans to push his comfort zone in Tec diving slowly and continue to enjoy the numerous dive sites in the Philippines with renewed enthusiasm. He is also planning to use his new skills to explore the many wrecks spread all around the Philippines.
